2021- 2022 Scholarship Recipient, Lana Quach

Lana Quach is our first-ever recipient of the Maleiha Carino Scholarship. She was selected first in the essay submission category and first in the final round of interviews.

 

Lana is an exceptionally bright senior from Stephen T. Mather High School;  She has actively participated in different clubs at Mather throughout her four years; she has been a student representative for the Student Voice Committee for all four years, a member of the GAGA: GAMER, ANIME, GRAPHICS, ART club for three years and serving as the secretary for one year, dancer for the Vietnamese club for two years, member of the Red Cross Full Hearts for one year, Cabinet member for the Mather Senior officers for one year, dancer for Filipino club for one year, and held a CPS CTE Summer internship as a software engineer at JPMorgan Chase. 

Lana will be attending Northwestern University and majoring in Computer Science in the Fall.

Message from Lana:

Hey, everyone! My name is Lana Quach. I am incredibly honored to be the first recipient of the Maleiha Carino Scholarship. I am a senior in the IT academy, and I plan on continuing my education in this field by majoring in Computer Science at Northwestern University (Go 'Cats!). Specifically, I want to learn more about artificial intelligence and its endless applications in a variety of sectors—including its use in improving security systems, increasing ease of use and accessibility, and combating other societal issues we currently face.

 

I want to give a shoutout to my groups National Honor Society and Student Voice Committee for always motivating me to help others and serve my community. As said beautifully by Michael, a character on one of my favorite TV shows called The Good Place, "What matters isn't if people are good or bad. What matters is if they're trying to be better today than they were yesterday." May Maleiha's selflessness continue to inspire us all, and her legacy shine in all the people she has touched.

"Implementing autonomous robots to reduce the physical fatigue."

One of my primary focuses is implementing autonomous robots to assist the physically impaired, in order to reduce the physical fatigue that can come from performing day-to-day tasks. In my free time, I enjoy playing video games and creating digital art. Haha, can you tell how much I enjoy technology?
